PEGASUS

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Pegasus!

Pegasus is a new town in the Waimakariri District of CanterburyNew Zealand. Named for the nearby Pegasus Bay, it is adjacent to the town of Woodend and is 25 km north of Christchurch. Once fully constructed, Pegasus will be home to up to 6000 people. The town will have approximately 1700 residential house sites. Retail and office space is located in the centre of the town adjacent to Lake Pegasus.

The project was first proposed in 1997 by Southern Capital and was initially developed by Infinity Investment Group of Wānaka. The project ran into financial trouble in late 2012, with the developers going into receivership. Todd Property bought it for an undisclosed sum in December 2012 and undertook infrastructure development to complete the project, selling to the Templeton Group in 2019.

Pegasus has an estimated population of 3,820 as of June 2022.

SCHOOLS:

Pegasus has one school.  Pegasus Bay School is a state co-educational full primary school for Year 1 to 8 students, located on Solander Road, with a roll of 469 students (as of November 2022).

Pegasus Golf Course is a beautiful parklands-style par 72 – 18 hole championship golf course.  With superb features and stunning views from every tra, golfers of every level will enjoy an excellent challenge and a game to remember.  This complex includes a gymnasium, tennis courts, golf driving range, cafe/bar and pro shop – this course is well worth a visit.

Pegasus Lake is a recently developed man-made lake located in the Pegasus township.  This lake is prone to blooms of potentially toxic cyanobacteria )”blue-green algae”) in the summer months (November – April) in particular.

Pegasus Beach is just a hop skip and jump away from the township and the area is popular for mountain bikers and recreational bikers and/or walkers the like.

Local bars, restaurants and cafe’s are popular too.  A new commercial development has taken off on the west side of State Highway 1 beside Pegasus and this leads you to a new subdivision, Ravenswood.  Popular for first home buyers, this subdivision will soon be home to a retirement village as well.
